Biography

I have always been fascinated by what drives people to do what they do, particularly when it comes to those who achieve unique and remarkable feats.

Beyond Success was founded by Lesley-Anne Pedlar (B.A. (Hons) M.A Psychology).

My curiosity led me to become a psychologist, and over the years my passion for studying performance and achievement has grown.
My personal experience is that I am closest to my true nature when I am testing my own (physical, emotional and mental) limits. I am never more fulfilled than when I am challenging myself to grow, learn, experience or master something new.

I am as inspired by the exceptional stand-out achievement of champions and ground-breakers as I am by ordinary people achieving something brave, noble and extraordinary in their own lives. When a person or team are able to bring the best of their character and the best of their skill together, that is when magic starts to happen. Being able to contribute in some way to these journeys is what drives me.
I continue to explore and study what underlies performance longevity, and the fundamentals of achievement, excellence and mastery. The latest areas of research into the Neuroscience of the Brain is a fundamental part of my approach to the work that I do.

The way we define and pursue success today often creates limitations and problems for consistent and sustained performance. It can narrow response-options and generate high levels of anxiety, leading to short-term rather than sustainable success. I work with my clients to re-define success in a way that opens up the potential for mastery and enduring high performance and achievement.

I would like to see the concept of high performance as a healthy way of life, rather than an “event”.

I am registered as a psychologist with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA), and am based in Johannesburg. I have over 20 years’ experience in the field of Performance Psychology, and an CFN accreditation (Certificate in the Foundations of Neuroleadership).

I use a personalized approach to working with teams and individuals by integrating various tools (such as assessments and biofeedback) and methodologies (such as cognitive neuroscience and performance psychology) to find effective solutions.
